Building Education Sustainably

At FreePathshala, we believe that nurturing construction workers children’s education and protecting our planet can go hand in hand. Our unique model blends community-powered recycling reusing, and upcycling with the mission of educating children of migrant construction workers.
We see the environment as a source of multiple resources and human life as full of multiple needs. By connecting the two, we create value from what others may see as waste. This approach not only reduces landfill, but also supports livelihoods, funds education, and strengthens our self-reliant model.
Together, we are proving that when we care for the planet and our children at the same time, sustainable growth is possible for everyone.

Turning Waste into Opportunity

Every day, huge amounts of waste end up in landfills, polluting our environment. FreePathshala’s recycling initiatives ensure that valuable materials are given a second life:

  • Paper, Plastic & Metal Waste: Through our Raddi Se Tarakki (RST) initiative, households and communities donate their recyclable waste. Instead of ending up in a landfill, this waste is collected, sorted, and channelized responsibly. The funds generated directly support the education of children.
  • Local Kabadiwala Partnership: We work closely with neighborhood kabadiwalas (waste pickers) so they can maximize their income. Instead of waste being sent to agents from far-off locations, local kabadiwalas get fair earnings, building dignity in their work while keeping the money within the community. Read more →

Tackling Textile Waste with Dignity

Textile waste is one of the largest contributors to landfills. FreePathshala reduces this impact by promoting reuse over disposal:

  • Families donate pre-loved clothes under our Sammaan Ka Saaman (SKS) initiative.
  • These clothes are distributed with dignity to construction workers and their families, ensuring they are valued, not treated as charity.
  • This reduces textile waste, lowers demand for new industrial production, and minimizes carbon footprint.Read more →

Extending the Life of Household Items

Every year, millions of utensils and household items are discarded unnecessarily. FreePathshala collects used utensils and daily-use items, which are then cleaned, repaired, and reused by families in need. This simple act:

  • Prevents excess industrial production.
  • Cuts down the energy and resources needed to manufacture new goods.
  • Provides dignity and relief to underprivileged families.Read more →

Giving Shoes a Second Walk

Shoes that are often thrown away still have life in them. We encourage families to donate pre-loved shoes, which are then passed on to children and workers. This small effort:

  • Keeps shoes out of landfills.
  • Ensures children can attend classes and play safely.
  • Reduces unnecessary manufacturing demand.Read more →
